To gain attention, either positive or negative, from someone in the environment.
To self regulate behaviors, to increase or decrease moods.
To gain a tangible positive consequence. Examples would be money, a toy, a hug, watching a favorite TV show or movie.
To gain a sensory consequence.Examples would be tactile, visual, taste, or auditory input.
To escape or avoid, an effort to avoid or escape from particular undesired situations may cause behaviors to manifest during or just prior to the activity that the consumer is trying to avoid or escape
